BugsCEP Home

BugsCEP is the latest development in the Bugs software package for the storage and analysis of (fossil) beetle data. The new version includes, apart from a considerable amount of new data (mainly entered by Paul Buckland) a number of new features to help in the interpretation of both modern and fossil beetle assemblages.

The software allows users to create/import site based abundance data, and perform a variety of ecological and climate related analyses. All outputs are in either MS Excel or Word/rtf format, so the results are easily transferable.

BugsCEP is part of Phil Buckland's PhD thesis (reference below), and more specific details of the methods employed are published there.

The prefered citation for the BugsCEP software is:

Buckland P.I. & Buckland P.C. (2006). Bugs Coleopteran Ecology Package (Versions: BugsCEP v7.63; Bugsdata v7.11; BugsMCR v2.02; BugStats v1.22) [Downloaded/CDROM: DATE] http://www.bugscep.com.

Insert the latest version numbers, which are available from the help menu within the program.

This allows for greater inter-comparability of results between versions.

For those preferring to cite an old fashioned paper publication:

BugsCEP also has a World Data Center citation form as follows:

Please always cite original sources for data as well as BugsCEP, including any method papers refered to in the software (e.g. Atkinson et al. 1986 for MCR)
